Siege of Menin, 18 May - 14 June 1744

The Dutch fortress Menin was besieged by French on 18 May 1744 & capitulated on the terms of free passage on 14 June 1744.
French army under King Louis XV (nominal commander marshal Noailles) composed of 62 battalions & 84 squadrons (Pajol, vol. III, p. 333). It was divided into 2 parts:
On the left bank of river Lys (king Louis XV, marshal Noailles)
Infantry (25 batts): brigades de Noailles (4), la Couronne (4), Royal (4), Artois (4), Orleans (5), Bourbonnais (4)
Cavalry (42 sqns): Maison du Roi (13), Royal-dragons (5), Royal (7), Brionne (6), Penthievre (6), Mestre-de-camp general (5)

Dutch garrison under governor general-lieutenant Echten consisted of one battalion La Rocque Infantry (900 men), one company de Brackel Infantry (375), 5 coys of de Villegas Ecossais (450) & the 2nd squadron of Hesse-Philipsthal Cavalry.
